Legal Internship
The legal internship programme offers law students and graduates in the early stages of their careers the opportunity to learn about work at a human rights NGO, and to contribute to our mission.
We welcome applications from current law students (undergraduate degree, graduate bachelor, or masters), and recent graduates within three years of graduation from a first degree or masters.
Applicants should normally have completed at least two years of legal education, or education in a connected field, and have a strong understanding of international human rights law.
We seek to provide our interns with the experience of working in an NGO, so each Just Access intern is likely to work on a number of assignments at the same time. These include independent research; background and policy research for reports and submissions before regional or international courts and UN mechanisms and initial drafting; assisting with project work, including developing and implementing training programs, and organising events; attending meetings with other organisations; fundraising and communications work; and administrative tasks as required.
The internship can be undertaken in person at our office in Heidelberg, Germany, or remotely, and the normal internship duration is 4-12 weeks.
Please note that this is an unpaid position, and we are unable to provide financial support for travel to or subsistence in Heidelberg. Reasonable costs associated with performance of internship tasks will be reimbursed, by prior agreement.

a brief cover letter (one page) highlighting your key skills, indicating when you would be available to start, your preferred duration for the internship, and whether you would prefer to work from our Heidelberg office or remotely;
a short writing sample (3-5 pages), for example a university essay or recent work; and
the names and contact details of two referees (please include: full names including titles, their position, email address, phone number, and a brief explanation of their connection to you).
