Legal Internship Program

The Just Access legal internship programme offers law students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain experience of work in a human rights-focussed NGO.  If you’d like to learn more about our work and to get a head-start in the world of human rights advocacy, we want to hear from you!

Legal Internships

Just Access is calling for applications from excellent undergraduates and graduates in the early stages of their careers with a strong background in international human rights law to contribute to its work.

Applicants should normally have completed at least two years of legal education, or education in a connected field, and have a good understanding of international human rights law.

We seek to provide our interns with the experience of working in an NGO, so each Just Access intern is likely to work on a number of assignments at the same time. These include independent research; background and policy research for reports and submissions before regional or international courts and UN mechanisms and initial drafting; assisting with project work, including developing and implementing training programs, and organising events; attending meetings with other organisations; fundraising and communications work; and administrative tasks as required.

The internship can be undertaken in person at our office in Heidelberg, Germany, or remotely.

This is an unpaid volunteer position. Pre-approved expenses (e.g. for travel) will be reimbursed. The duration of the internship is three months.

How to apply:

We normally hold two internship cycles per year, and accept applications on a rolling basis.  If you would like to be considered for an upcoming cycle, please send us your application!

Please send an e-mail to: contact(at)just-access.de, with “Internship” in the subject line, together with

  • your CV;

  • a brief cover letter (one page) highlighting your key skills, indicating when you would be available to start, whether you would be available to work full time or part time, and whether you would prefer to work from our Heidelberg office or remotely;

  • a short writing sample (3 pages), for example a university essay or recent work; and

  • the names and contact details of two referees (please include:  full names including titles, their position, email address, phone number, and a brief explanation of their connection to you).

Please send all documents in pdf format.

What Our Former Interns Say

The past three months have been incredibly important for my career and my personal life, and I am truly grateful for the trust and appreciation that the team has always shown me. Through Just Access, I have concretely understood what it is like to work in the field of law and human rights and how the things I study can be applied in the real world.
